IMHPSS (Islamic Mental Health & Psychosocial Support) Training

Grounded in an understanding of Islamic principles and solid mental health and psychosocial support work with and for Muslim (Filipino) communities, the Islamic Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (IMHPSS) training aims to equip trainees with essential knowledge and skills to apply an Islamic framework in:

• preventing and/or responding to humanitarian emergencies;
• integrating mental health and psychosocial support into other sectors or issues (e.g, education, peacebuilding, gender and development, climate change)
• designing and implementing sustainable community development programs; and,
• promoting and maintaining positive well-being for self and others.

An Islamic worldview will be used to understand and analyze human life and society in an ever-changing world. Core principles, guidelines and intervention pyramid being used by the United Nations and other international humanitarian organizations, and trauma-informed care principles will be discussed in relation to the Islamic worldview. Key considerations in integrating IMHPSS into other sectors are also presented to help participants create position papers, policy briefs, programs or projects that target systemic change and respond to the needs of the community.

As a bonus, the training includes Psychological First Aid (it will be a combination of Islamic and humanitarian principles for providing compassionate, practical and immediate support in times of need).

• humanitarian and healthcare workers
• policy & development officers
• community project managers & team members
• religious leaders
• teachers and upper year students of Psychology, Mental Health, Social Work and/or Community Development

3. Integrating IMHPSS Programming Across Sectors
4. Psychological First Aid and Psychosocial Processing Tools
5. Working on Our ‘Afiyah: Islamic Approach to Self-Care

Schedule: 13:00 (GMT+8; Manila/Singapore) for five Saturdays; session duration: 2-2.5 hours

Sessions will be conducted online via Google Meet (Participants must attend all live sessions)

• Assignments, Quizzes and Final Assessment

A CERTIFICATE will be provided upon successful completion of course requirements
